A foundation for life

Buddleia Class (Yr 3/4)

Welcome to Buddleia Class

Our teachers are Mrs Ingram (Monday to Thursday) and Miss Smith (Friday).

Our Learning Support Assistants are Miss King, Mrs Sanderson and Miss Robinson.

In Buddleia Class, we are kind to each other, great at lively discussion, lovers of stories and importantly, we include everyone to make sure we all enjoy success at school and feel valued.

Autumn 2023- We are studying the author and illustrator Anthony Browne in detail this term. Although we will read 'Hansel and Gretel' in more detail, we will read and compare the illustrations of many of Browne's texts, to understand his style better.

Here is a link to lots of useful information shared with parents at the start of the school year.

Discover Term- Autumn 2023

Is there such a thing as a 'just' invasion?

This term we are considering whether it is ever fair for one group of people to travel somewhere new and claim what they find as theirs....

Here are some highlights to look forward to this term:

  • Lots of Historical learning about Romans, Saxons and Vikings;
  • Exploring the sculpture of our key artist, Barbara Hepworth;
  • A visit to an art gallery to support our appreciation of the arts;
  • A grisly Beowulf re-telling!
  • Understanding how footballer Bukayo Saka is driven by his Christian faith;
  • Samba drumming with our Hampshire Music Service teacher, Mrs Dixon;
  • Multi-faith week;
  • Narrating the script of this year's Nativity performance!

P.E. in Buddleia Class

Please send your child in kit on Wednesdays and Fridays. On chillier days, children can wear a navy track suit over their PE kit. All children should have a water bottle every day.

Weekly Expectations

Reading

Your child should be reading in their own time at least 3 times a week.

This could be with an adult, with a sibling or independently.

Any type of reading counts- we love to see things like newspapers, comics, audio books and magazines recorded in your Reading Record!

Every week, if a child has read at least 3 times and logged it in their Reading Record with a quality comment, (we teach the children how to reflect and comment on their reading in class), they will enter a prize draw to say 'well done' for engaging with Reading so well.

Spellings

Spellings are assigned weekly via Spelling Shed and are tested on a Friday. We will assess your child's spelling ability and give them differentiated word lists to suit their needs.

Mathletics

All children should complete 1000 points on Mathletics weekly. There will be specific tasks to support the learning we are doing in class.

Times Tables

By the end of year 4, all children are expected to have a fluent, working memory of times tables upto 12 x 12. With this in mind, regular short bursts of practice are essential. We will offer time in class to polish up on these, but we ask that parents encourage their children to use the TT Rockstars website to do so at home too. Other methods are great too- chanting, practising in the car, workbooks, putting them up on the fridge...
