A foundation for life

Buddleia Class (Yr 3/4)

Welcome to Buddleia Class

Our teachers are Mrs Ingram (Monday to Wednesday) and Miss Smith (Thursday and Friday).

Our Learning Support Assistants are Miss King, Mrs Fraemohs, Miss Robinson and Mrs Baggott.

In Buddleia Class, we are kind to each other, great at lively discussion, lovers of stories and importantly, we include everyone to make sure we all enjoy success at school and feel valued.

Summer 2024- Our Whole Class Reading text is "The Iron Man" by Ted Hughes.

Here is a link to lots of useful information shared with parents at the start of the school year.

STEM Term- Summer 2024

Can We Believe Everything We See?

This term we are learning to be movie-makers, by applying lots of exciting Computing knowledge of software and apps such as stop motion, green screening and movie editing.

We will also use our Design Technology skills to make linkages and levers, as well as a working switch to enhance a Crumble code.

Here are some highlights to look forward to this term- please scroll down for more detail on each curriculum area:

  • The start of our Summer swimming term- always a highlight of the week!
  • Collaborating to produce short films, ready for a mini movie festival of screenings at our local independent cinema;
  • Exploring the achievements of our key figures: Annie Atkins, Thomas Edison and Dwayne Johnson (Faith In Action);
  • Playing the ukulele with our Hampshire Music Service teacher, Mrs Dixon;
  • An after school 'Dark Den' event, showcasing our Crumble-coded lightboxes with moving parts;
  • Sports Day and all the fun of the Summer Term!

P.E. in Buddleia Class

Please send your child in kit on Thursdays and Fridays. On chillier days, children can wear a navy track suit over their PE kit. All children should have a water bottle every day.

Weekly Expectations

Reading

Your child should be reading in their own time at least 3 times a week.

This could be with an adult, with a sibling or independently.

Any type of reading counts- we love to see things like newspapers, comics, audio books and magazines recorded in your Reading Record!

Check out the fantastic SORA Online Library, which every child has access to!

Spellings

Spellings are assigned weekly via Spelling Shed and are tested on a Thursday. We will assess your child's spelling ability and give them differentiated word lists to suit their needs.

Mathletics

All children should complete 1000 points on Mathletics weekly. There will be specific tasks to support the learning we are doing in class.

Times Tables

By the end of year 4, all children are expected to have a fluent, working memory of times tables upto 12 x 12. With this in mind, regular short bursts of practice are essential. We will offer time in class to polish up on these, but we ask that parents encourage their children to use the TT Rockstars website to do so at home too. Other methods are great too- chanting, practising in the car, workbooks, putting them up on the fridge...
